Advising Services
You are responsible for understanding and completing all degree requirements before you graduate. Advisors, faculty members, and records office personnel will help you learn the requirements; however, you alone must complete them. You are also responsible for following university procedures and knowing deadline dates as published in official university documents, as well as for abiding by personal conduct standards as published in the Code of Student Rights, Responsibilities, and Conduct. When you meet with your advisor during the year, you will learn more specifically about your responsibilities as a student and how to access information you need to become successful.
Continuing students should meet with their advisors throughout the year to discuss:- Your progress in courses,
- Your choice of major and accompanying degree requirements,
- Any necessary changes in your current course enrollment,
- Plans for courses during the next semester(s),
- Academic interests which are emerging or waning,
- Your study skills (for all courses or a specific course),
- Advising and other support resources,
- Academic standards, and
- Extracurricular/enrichment activities that might enhance your education.
To remain in the UD (and be allowed to register for the following semester) continuing students must declare a major during the semester in which they earn 55 credit hours. To enable you to fulfill this requirement, you should actively explore academic fields/degree programs of interest and maintain regular contact with your assigned continuing student advisor to learn of your opportunities.
Who is my advisor?
Students who live off campus, transfer students, international students, and all students beyond the freshman year are usually assigned to advisors in the Division’s main office in Maxwell Hall.
