Choosing a Major
Choosing a major is an important step in your undergraduate career. Your “major intention” will inform your decisions as you create your academic plans. Therefore, it is critical that you truly take ownership and responsibility for your choice, your major. To encourage students to engage in the process of choosing a major, UD has a policy that requires students to declare a major at about the end of their second year (by their 55th credit hour).
University Division’s Exploratory Student Resources has developed resources about different majors, as well as a step-by-step procedure to follow that can help you make a thoughtful and informed major decision. These services are also valuable if you want to confirm your major choice and/or to expand your academic plan to include a minor, double major, overseas study, internships, etc.
To officially update your record to reflect your major choice, you must see your UD advisor. Your advisor will review the impact of any major update/change on your academic progress with you.
