Auto-W Deadlines

Dates & Deadlines

What is the Auto-W Deadline?

The Auto-W deadline is the deadline to drop a class and receive an automatic grade of “W” (for withdrawal) on your transcript.  The "W" grade does not affect your GPA.

To find the Auto-W deadline for the current term, check the on-line official calendar or the UD Dates & Deadlines page.

Are You Thinking About Dropping a Class?

In order to be a full-time student you must be enrolled in 12 credit hours.  See an advisor if you are considering dropping below 12 credit hours--even temporarily--so that you are aware of the potentially serious consequences of doing so.

Read Drop/Add cautions and Drop/Add procedures for complete information.

Can I Drop Classes After The Auto-W Deadline?

To drop a class after the “AUTO W” deadline, you must petition University Division and provide documentation of urgent need related to extended illness or equivalent emotional distress.  Academic difficulty alone will NOT be considered sufficient reason to be allowed to withdraw from a class after the “AUTO W” deadline.  IF you are allowed to withdraw after the deadline, you instructor will have the option of assigning you the grade of  “F” or a “W” depending on your standing in the class prior to dropping.
