Planning for Registration
Important considerations before registration:
Holds on Your Record
It is important to check for Holds on your record before you attempt to enroll in classes. Review these in the Holds box in your Student Center. Read any information listed carefully. You will need to contact the offices listed to discuss the requirements for having a Hold removed.
Advising Holds
University Division freshmen have an Advising Hold automatically placed on their record each semester. An Advising Hold will be removed by an advisor when there is clear evidence of thoughtful academic preparation.
Probation Hold
University Division students on academic probation have a Probation Hold automatically placed on their record. If you are a University Division student on academic probation, you must make and attend an appointment with your assigned advisor to discuss your academic progress and your academic plans before your Probation Hold can be removed. Students on probation who do not sign a Phoenix Program Contract or fail to meet probation contract terms will not be released during Early Registration, but will be released, if they are then eligible, after semester grades are final and records have been reviewed (approximately the last week of May or the first week of June).
Important considerations during registration:Permissions
Permission is required to enroll in some courses. If you are attempting to enroll in a course listed in the online Schedule of Classes with the statement “Department Consent Required,” you will need to contact the department offering the course to request Permission to enroll.
Courses Taught in the Residence Halls
If you live in a residence hall, see the Residential Education courses listed in the Office of the Registrar’s online Schedule of Classes (click on Special Course Listings at http://registrar.indiana.edu/~registra/stu_registration.shtml). These classes meet in convenient locations and give you the opportunity to meet other students living near you.
Waitlists
If a course you need/want to take is closed when you attempt to enroll in it, you can put yourself on a waitlist for the course.
Call 855-8200 during normal business hours or email reghelp@indiana.edu if you need further assistance to set up a waitlist.
Monitoring Your Course Enrollment
You are responsible for monitoring your Class Schedule. Once you have registered for classes, you can view your Class Schedule on OneStart in your Student Center.
Final Exam Schedule
It is your responsibility to avoid final examination conflicts. Before registering for classes, view the Final Examination Schedule printed in the Enrollment and Student Academic Information Bulletin for the appropriate term.
