UD Holds
University Division (UD) Academic Advising Holds prevent access to some or all University services. One or more of these Holds may be placed on your record because you have not met a UD requirement or because you are not in good academic standing. "Multi-Institutional” holds restrict access to services on every IU campus.

UD Advising Hold (Advising)
DESCRIPTION
To promote thoughtful and well-informed decision-making, all new students, freshmen students, international students, and other targeted students are required to meet with an academic advisor to develop academic plans for the next term.
IMPACT
No enrollment is allowed in the next term until the Hold is released.
RELEASE
Schedule an appointment with your UD (or UD-Affiliated) Academic Advisor to discuss your plans for the coming term. The Hold will be released after evidence of thoughtful academic planning.
(If you are a newly entering student, your planning meeting will be scheduled for you as a part of New Student Orientation and your Hold will be released at that time.)
UD Composition Hold (English requirement)
DESCRIPTION
To encourage the early development of fundamental writing skills required for success at IUB, all students are required to complete the composition requirement within the first 55 credit hours of enrollment (Transfer and Intercampus Transfer students are required to complete the composition requirement within the first two terms of Bloomington enrollment if they transfer with close to, or more than, 55 credit hours).
IMPACT
No enrollment is allowed in the next term until the Hold is released.
RELEASE
Schedule an appointment with your UD (or UD-Affiliated) Academic Advisor to develop plans for completing the requirement. The Hold will only be released after a written agreement is approved.
UD Credit Hour Hold (Advising exceeds maximum hrs)
DESCRIPTION
To ensure timely progress toward degree completion, all students are required to leave UD no later than the beginning of the term following the one in which they complete 70 credit hours. (Transfer and Intercampus Transfer students who enter the UD with close to, or more than, 70 credit hours are required to leave UD no later than the beginning of their 3rd term of Bloomington enrollment.)
IMPACT
No enrollment is allowed in the next term until the Hold is released.
RELEASE
Schedule an appointment with your UD (or UD-Affiliated) Academic Advisor to develop plans for earning admission or certification into your intended School. The Hold will only be released after a written agreement is approved.
UD Dismissal Hold (Academic Dismissal)
DESCRIPTION
Students who fail to meet the UD Academic Standards are prohibited from enrolling in a subsequent term and are required to leave the institution for at least the next fall or spring term following dismissal.
IMPACT
MULTI-INSTITUTIONAL. No University services are allowed.

UD Exploratory Hold (Advising achieved minimum hrs)
DESCRIPTION
To ensure timely progress toward completion of a degree, all students are required to declare an intended major no later than the term in which they will complete 56 credit hours.
IMPACT
No enrollment is allowed in the next term until the Hold is released.
RELEASE
Schedule an appointment with your UD (or UD-Affiliated) Academic Advisor to formally declare your current major intention.
UD Probation Hold (Academic Probation with impact)
DESCRIPTION
Students who do not meet the UD Academic Standards are required to seek academic advising guidance and support before enrolling in subsequent terms.
IMPACT
MULTI-INSTITUTIONAL. No enrollment is allowed in the next term until the Hold is released.
RELEASE
Schedule an appointment with your UD (or UD-Affiliated) Academic Advisor to verify the completion of your Phoenix Program contract requirements for a temporary release of the Hold.
Increase your Cumulative Grade Point Average to a minimum 2.00 for a permanent release of the Hold.
UD PRAXIS I Hold (UDIV Placement test req)
DESCRIPTION
To ensure timely process toward degree completion, all Pre-EDUC students are expected to earn passing scores on the PRAXIS I, Pre-Professional Skills Test- a prerequisite for admission into the Teacher Education Program- in their first term of enrollment.
IMPACT
No enrollment is allowed in the next term until the Hold is released.
RELEASE
Schedule an appointment with your UD (or UD-Affiliated) Academic Advisor to either provide documentation of PRAXIS I scores or to develop plans for completing the PRAXIS I. The Hold will only be released after scores are verified or an agreement is approved. The PRAXIS I can be completed on campus at Bloomington Evaluation Services and Testing (BEST).
