UD ACADEMIC STATUS: Probation and Dismissal Standards
All students with an IU Cumulative GPA (CGPA) below a 2.0 are placed on some form of probation. However, the first time a student’s IU CGPA falls into the critical probation range the student is placed on critical probation and is in danger of dismissal. If the student’s IU CGPA falls into the critical probation range a second time, the student is dismissed from University Division (UD) and may not enroll at IUB through UD for at least one fall or spring semester. After an absence from IUB for a fall or spring semester, the student may petition to be considered for reinstatement. Students who have a semester IU GPA of 2.5 or higher are not dismissed, regardless of their cumulative grade point average. For summer sessions a 2.0 or higher is required to avoid dismissal. Grades in courses taken at any IU campus will affect academic standing.

Academic records are reviewed at the end of fall semester, spring semester, and the second summer session. Determination of academic status is based upon all credit hours completed (both transfer hours and IU graded hours) and IU CGPA. “Tested” hours and Pass/Fail hours are not included in the graded hours unless a grade of “F” is given for the Pass/Fail.
Effective for students who matriculated at IUB in Fall 2001 or later.
