Students walking on steps at Wells Library

The purpose of the New Students section of this site is to help you prepare to have a thoughtful, intelligent, meaningful, and purposeful conference with an academic advisor during New Student Orientation by providing to you, in advance, the basic information you need to have in order to make some beginning decisions about your educational, academic, and enrollment plans.

Preparing for Advising & Registration

    Academics

Investigate academics at Indiana University Bloomington.

Explore schools, degrees, majors, minors, & certificates.

  4. Step 4

  5. Step 5

    Planning

    Complete your Academic Planning Worksheet.

Follow the steps noted above to be well-prepared for your academic advising conference during New Student Orientation.

Start right and you only set yourself up for future and ongoing successes at IUB.  History, experience, and research show us, without question, when you start strong you are

  • more likely to complete your degree in a timely manner,
  • more likely to be happy and satisfied with your educational and academic experiences,
  • more likely to be engaged and involved in the life of the campus and the larger communities, and
  • more likely to reach the personal, educational, and professional goals you have set for yourself.

Starting strong means doing a lot of preparatory work with this website BEFORE you come to New Student Orientation. Read and research. Think and reflect. Explore and confirm. Note questions and ideas. Come back to this website many times as you prepare to attend New Student Orientation. Write notes to yourself of ideas about which you want to think more, of statements about which you want to ask questions, of options about which you wish to learn more, or interests you want to consider exploring, of topics you want to discuss, and of courses in which you would be interested in enrolling in your first term.  The more work you do before you come to Bloomington, the more meaningful, useful, and productive you will find New Student Orientation and your first academic advising conference.

If you have any questions before you come to Bloomington, please use your IU email account to contact us at udivhelp@indiana.edu.
